We sleep in today which has become a rare thing. Carol makes a lovely egg sandwich and cappuccino breakfast. I help, of course, by eating and drinking said items. We leave the apartment around 1100 and do a self guided walk around Cesky Krumlov.
\nWe start at the Horni Bridge which makes me want to go back to the apartment! Well actually, it gives us a good view of the castle, Vltva River, and the Eggenberg Brewery.<\/p>\n

From there, we go and visit the Church of St Vitus. It was built in the 15th century when the Roman Catholic Church was fighting the Hussites. I am still not sure who exactly the Hussites were, but can guess they were not catholic. I snap a photo before the no photo police tell me not to. The castle was the same so I guess the Czechs do not want anyone to know what is here. Maybe it is left over from communism, the mentality that if you can’t see it or record it, we must have plenty here.
\nDone with my rant of the day, we head to the main square. The town hall flies the Czech flag and the town flag, a rose symbol remindful of the Rozmberks rule that lasted 300 years.<\/p>\n

The square also has a plague monument, as a thanks to the fact that the plague after killing all but two people in the neighboring villages, did not spread here. In 1938, Hitler stood in the square celebrating the annexation of the Sudetenland into Germany. In 1968, Russian tanks rolled in to intimidate freedom questing locals. Today, the only invasion is tourists. We veer off the square and just start randomly walking up streets finding little hidden remnants of the towns past. We make it to the river and find a waterway next to a spillway that we will raft down tomorrow. We watch the rafts and kayaks go down and it seems pretty safe. We will see.
\nWe decide to have a late lunch, early dinner at a place I had read about called KRMCA Markt. It is above the town near the castle gardens and is supposed to have great grilled meats. The climb is not as bad as we thought it might be and we are soon walking inside.<\/p>\n

In the first room, there are two large tables of very loud Asians so we move into the room with the grill. It is much better in here and surprisingly not very hot.
\nWe order ribs, a sausage, potatoes, and of course, Pivo. You should be able to figure out what this beverage is. The food is phenomenal. Perfectly cooked, non fatty ribs, and a large klobasa ( kielbasa) sausage both served with fresh horseradish and mustard. The potatoes come with an excellent garlic cream sauce. Food wise, it is better than last night. After eating, we stroll down to the apartment, trying another Trdelnik along the way.
\nWe spend a relaxing afternoon in our place and then decide to go downstairs and check out the Moldovite Museum. We watch a video and learn that Moldovites are rocks that are the result of a meteor hitting the earth at just a certain angle and melting and metamorphosizing the surrounding rocks while shattering them into pieces. The green rocks are found in Czech Republic and made into jewelry.<\/p>\n

We see several examples in the museum and the tour is over. We go back to the room and just stay in with some wine, cheese, and kielbasa we bought yesterday at the market. It turns out our cheese was not a great choice as it is very salty. We try to soak it in water and pan fry it to pull some salt out but it doesn’t really work. We settle for mostly kielbasa, bread, and wine. It is still a nice meal and nice to not have to go out. Tomorrow we will raft the Vltva River so that should be fun on what is supposed to be a warm day. CNC having fun in the Czech Republic.
