Another great breakfast to start our day. We even get to sleep in a bit as we are in no rush today. The only thing on our agenda is the National Gallery, which is Oslo’s art museum. We pack up, check out, and leave our packs in the hotel luggage storage area. They even have safes there so we can lock up the iPad, passports, cash, etc.
\nWe hop on a tram to the gallery and are there in no time.
\nWe start out with some Johan Christian Dahl who is considered the father of Norwegian romanticism. He painted in the first half of the 1800s and primarily painted landscapes.<\/p>\n

We also see a rare collaboration of artists in where Hans Gude painted the landscape and Adolph Tidemand painted the people. The museum is well laid out and has good explanations in English about the history and artists in each room. One painting by Krohg of a sick girl is hard to distinguish as a painting. It almost looks like a print by the way it was done. A few by Harold Sohlberg really capture the light and draw you in. Munch has his own room here and we see “The Scream” again.<\/p>\n

The one in the Munch museum said crayon on cardboard, this one is paint on cardboard, so are either the one that sold at auction? I guess we will all have to use Mr. Google to find out. There are a few paintings from Picasso, Monet, Goya, Gauguin, and one Renoir.
\nWe finish our art lesson and are right by the historical museum so we peek inside. It has some old stave church art, Viking artifacts, and Egyptian mummies. When we are done, we go back to the hotel, have a cup of cappuccino, and retrieve our belongings.
\nOut we go for one more bus ride to the docks where we are taking the overnight ferry to Copenhagen which is Kobenhaven in Denmark. We sit on deck as we set sail and the sun graces us with its presence. It is quite pleasant and we hang out for about an hour. Then we go down to eat in their Italian restaurant.<\/p>\n

A window table watching the Norwegian islands float by and also an interesting parade of people. Spaghetti Bolognese, a cheese pizza, and a 9 dollar beer set us back around 48 dollar .Welcome to Denmark. As a side note, the 48 hour Oslo Pass more than paid for itself with the museums and sights we wanted to see and the included transportation. We head back to the room and I journal a bit. We are both pretty wiped and I think we fell asleep by 0930. It’s dark in here!
