We wake up after a good nights sleep at 0730. The boat is scheduled to arrive at 0945, so we lounge around for a little while. They have an English Channel with what we surmise is England’s version of Cops. Their bad boys are quite a bit more polite than ours. It seems to focus car thefts ( cars getting nicked) and the cops cars are called interceptors. One cop rides scoobie which I think is the drivers seat. Quite entertaining.
\nWe get off the ship around 1000 and apparently there is no free shuttle to Osterport like I read about, so we start to walk to the station on our own. No maps, but we follow along the train tracks and I ask a nice man who tells us exactly where to go. From Osterport, we arrive quickly at Kobenhaven Central. I get some Danish Kroners from the ATM and ask a train official what track our train leaves from. Track 5 it is and 15 minutes later, our train arrives. We apparently sit in some old lady’s reserved seat, but a nice young man explains how we know what seats are open, as there are little electronic signs above some that say reserved. That confusion resolved, we settle in for the ride to Odense, where we will switch trains to Svendborg.<\/p>\n

The train connection goes smoothly and we are in Svendborg at 1335. We have an hour and a half to catch the next ferry at 1515. We find our way to the terminal and find a nice shady seat with a table. It is made out of boat pieces, or at least built to look that way. It is a beautiful day, probably one of the best weather wise that we have had.
\nPet peeve for Europeans. They have not learned smoking etiquette here. Two ladies stand right next to us and light up. There is only a quarter mile of dock that they can smoke at, where they are not near anyone, but noooo, I must be subjected to their tobacco stink. Alright, I am done.
\nThe 75 minute ferry ride is very nice. We sit outside on top enjoying the sun and fresh air.<\/p>\n

There are a large number of sailboats, all sizes, out enjoying the day. Many of them pass close by to the ferry. We arrive in Aeroskobing at 1630 and take the short walk to our Bed and Coffee. No breakfast included here for the first time on our trip. This will be the case for us in Denmark. Our room is on the top floor of the building. The owner, Leslie, a retired lawyer, tells us that there is only a few buildings that pre date1690, the year of a big fire. Our house is only 160 years old! This town is one of the best preserved small towns in Denmark and the buildings are really cool. We feel as if we have stepped back in time.
\nWe go down near the waterfront to eat at a place that smokes all their own fish. We sit on a picnic table outside and enjoy our meal. Carol has fish cakes, I have a whole smoked fish similar to trout.<\/p>\n

Potato salad is the side accompaniment and a beer finishes off the meal. It is very good and inexpensive by Denmark standards. The whole meal for both of us is only about 26 dollars with the beer.
\nWe walk around and find the grocery store where we buy a couple of large beers to go. On sale only 1.50 each, we are very happy. I forgot to mention that we get a free glass of wine where we are staying. Life is looking up in Denmark. We meet the owners of our place in the store. He says that you have to like what they have here, because if you do not you will starve as they are the only place in town to buy groceries. We stroll on back to the room to relax and rest up for tomorrow.
